In the first lesson, we will spend the first 10-15 minutes finding out more about your golf background and what you are hoping to accomplish with lessons. This interview is vital to creating a program that will enable you to reach your goals. Justin will help you begin to analyze your current game (a process that will also be ongoing for the rest of your golfing career) so that you will have the proper tools to know not only what to work on in your game but also how to incorporate that into practicing and playing. After the interview is completed, we will begin to work on whatever part of the game you would like to focus on first.
If we are working on the full swing, I will ask you to grade each shot (very good, good, average, poor, and terrible) so that I may get a better idea of what your typical shots are as well as your expectations. After watching enough shots to get a sense of your typical ball flight and expectations, we will watch your swing on video and discuss what is currently happening. Often time’s golfers will have a misconception of what happens in the swing (head down, swing slower, club swings straight back and through) and that misconception is mainly responsible for their current ball flight. Quite frequently, once the golfer receives the correct information an immediate improvement in the swing and ball flight happens.
I will go over why the ball is currently doing what it is and more importantly what can be done to create your desired ball flight. A typical conversation might go something like this (I’m assuming the student is right handed) “the reason the ball is curving to the right is because the clubface is open relative to the path at impact. A weak grip and aiming to the left are encouraging this. To correct this, we need to have a stronger grip and aim towards our target. I would also use video to show the student the before and after as well as examples of tour players to ensure that they had a correct visual/feel of the desired changes.
After each full swing lesson, a voice over (recap) of the lesson is sent to the student to ensure that they have a clear understanding of what changes need to be done. The voice over lasts between 2-3 minutes and plays a vital role in the improvement… See a sample voice over click below…
